I was just reminded - remember last year when the MLS wouldn't move a game because we were going to have close to 90% of the team on international duty. But now that 'ethic' changes for a friendly. Wow. Just wow. Disgusting. Pathetic.

Last season I don't think it was a possibility. I'm going to have to look it up, but I'm pretty sure the MLS changed the rules because of what happened last year to allow teams to move games.

Teams are now taking advantage of the rule to move games for friendlies.

Just cause during a lot of those games in 2004-2005 (Int'l friendlies at Roger's Centre), teams were not required to bring their star players as it was not a FIFA sponsored or endorsed event.

EDIT: Also, while we run the risk of loosing players for a friendly, so do Real Madrid. La Liga and Champions League start only a few weeks after this game.

The difference is, they are putting their players through the pre-season with this stuff, where friendlies are required to get in shape for the season. I certainly don't complain about the Charleston tournament.

But in the middle of a season and with a team that is competitive, a friendly like this could be very costly.

We've lost key players to injury in these mid-season friendlies before. I'd rather the guys get an extra few days of rest.

Anyway, I'm just tired of the jerking around.

I'm going to support my team on the field. TFC will get my ticket money and that's it. Friendlies, jersies, merch, extra events ($6 for a fucking practice?!?!) will not be getting it from me anymore. Sorry, this trough has run dry.

I'm sure that lots of people will still be willing to pay for this and will be ecstatic to see it. Good for you. It's nice to see a top-quality opponent coming to town, for sure. But it's not nice to see the loyal fans who have been with the team since the beginning get jerked around like this.

All the hype has been built up about our friendly and now that it's finally announced, we hear "oh wait, but this isn't the one we're including in your package, that's this other one". Give me a break.

Now...if they bring in another team that is of high quality and stature, I'll be somewhat mollified, but the term "lesser opponent" sure doesn't sound like it to me.

Anyway, I'm off for the day...I've spent too much time here as it is with this BS.

Can I ask people a question.....what if our other friendly turns out to be Juve, will you still be upset? that's a pretty big team, so your included friendly is not a waste plus you have the chance to see one of the biggest clubs in the world if you decide to pay for it.

No ... I posted this in another thread. Juventus is a huge club and it would meet any obligation MLSE has for the int'l friendly included with the season seat package.

I guess we will just have to wait and see who is ends up being.

Ticket prices have also yet to be confirmed, although Toronto FC are said to be pursuing another opponent for a second exhibition game to fulfill their one-game commitment to season ticket holders, enabling the Real Madrid tickets to be sold at a premium, and not inclusive of season ticket packages.

Certainly seems likely, but it's defintiely short of confirmation. Also, what does "premium" mean... All these factors will contribute to my reaction, not just speculation. Life's to short to worry about things I don't know about

I wish they would just sort this out already, let us know how much more they are going to take out of our pockets. Don't they realize its a recession, people are losing jobs....The Edu money should pay for this friendly.

originally it was 2 inter. now it's one and 2 canadian games...and like the first game of the CCL qualifiers or something...only 1 international

From the other thread, some really good points:

So as it stands,
1. we move a regular season game from a nice time in August to a busy time in June where Amado and Wynne are going to be missing
2. we now only have 3 home games in July, August and September
3. we piss off the season ticket holders by making them pay extra for a good friendly.
4. we force a second useless friendly

I dont know what the scheduling is like but this could have all been fixed if they moved the friendly to the Roger centre and put grass down

1. they wouldnt need to mess with the scheduling
2. 2 home games in August are better then 1
3. the 16,000 season ticket holders could use their friendly tickets for this friendly and the other 34,000 seats at the Roger Centre could be used to pay for the match
4. no second useless friendly to fill their obligation to us
