Atlanta bringing a centre half… posting because of the bit at the end: every team that wants to succeed in the current MLS has to get their scouting operations in shape or sort something out in that dept. No more one part-time guy in europe who works for the league. That will not cut it.
“They look set to bring in Norwegian international center back Stian Gregersen from Bordeaux, who is an obvious like-for-like replacement for Robinson. Note that Silva and Muyumba also came from French clubs, so it appears SRC FTBL (the data/analytics/scouting company Atlanta contracted with last year) feels like they’ve found a pipeline worth trusting.”

They've sold out their season tickets, Messi effect and all.
I wonder if we'll be the only fanbase that doesn't: where people are so pissed at the club, any risk of not getting their big Messi bonus means they might... you know... have to use them and go to games and all.
Do we have any indication of season ticket uptake?
Manning said it was a not unusual 80% in December
Molinaro said in November "Bill Manning said the current renewal rate from the team's 21,000 season-ticket holders is at 83 per cent." Loss of just over 3500 season tickets. If not for the Messi effect though....man they got lucky with that or the numbers could be quite dreadful.

He was talking to Velez Sarsfield as well, but the money and role were both going to be substantially reduced.
Montreal has Opoku as their starting striker and he's likely not a regular double-digit goalscorer; he's good, but his primary talent is as a defensive forward, causing turnovers and pressure. So they probably want Martinez for those games when it's not clicking for Opoku, as a late game breaker.

This guy always looked really good when I saw him play a few years ago. Seemingly never got the opportunity to move forward in the way maybe he should have. Will be interested to see how he does.
Just another kid from around here now playing somewhere else in MLS. There is a boatload of them now.
"There are some people who might have better technique than me, and some may be fitter than me, but the main thing is tactics. With most players, tactics are missing. You can divide tactics into insight, trust, and daring." - Johan Cruyff
Its not like he's going to be their backline leader but given we have grown 0 CB's to even be backups....
I enjoy watching Muriel play for Atalanta but he isn't seeing much of the field this year. He’s coming off the bench and they have a bunch of forward options. It will be interesting to see how he does in the mls. He’s still a good scorer and very useful in my opinion.
His performance has dropped noticeably in the past two to three years. As you mention, when and how Atalanta use him likely has had an effect; chicken and egg argument. The move may give him the opportunity to reboot and get some of his footballing mojo back. Agree, will be interesting to see how he does in MLS.
His path was pretty non-traditional and I get the sense he would always try Europe.
But we need to start making a better case for top talent to stay local. It’s too big an opportunity for both the players and the club to ignore. Criminal how badly they have run the program for this long.
To be fair, I don’t think this kid has played anything higher than 5th division in Germany. Also, looks like he has been out of action for the last year due to injury. If he turns into something then kudos to the whitecaps scouting dept but it is a long way from being a tfc miss. Unless I am missing something (which is entirely likely)
Not much to show for the 34 or so promotions to the first team. One gets the sense that promotions have happened in the past mostly to satisfy the requirements of running an academy rather than truly feeding the first team. Whose is our most successful promotion, Ashton Morgan?
LOL
Next time somebody talks about English football superiority...
