Tweaks to rosters coming this summer
Montreal had their home opener last night. So it would appear to me that TFC doesn’t play at home in March because the league demands it, rather we do it because we’re trying to clear out more available dates for the Argos when they start their season.
Stade Saputo isn't winterized and doesn't have under soil heating like we do. Olympic Stadium wasn't available to them this year either (where they usually have early season home games). However, just because we can hold a game, should mean that we have to.
That being said, I hate the schedule this year. We only have 2 home games in June and 2 in July. Add in Leagues Cup in Aug it will most likely be 2 home games then as well (1 Leagues cup vs the Mexican team and 1 vs DC when the regular season resumes).
6 home games in the summer period is terrible, as we're only competing with baseball (and a bit of CFL).
Former Reds defender Jeremy Hall is the new head coach of Minnesota United FC2.

Some new rules starting this weekend, incl in stadium VAR announcements
Still tied for fifth after Charlotte’s 0-3 loss today. It’s difficult not to imagine Philly ahead of us with their 1.86 wining percentage… otherwise it’s a legit 5th.

10 game check in
Despite only having 11 goals and being at a -2 GD, this team has that dawg in 'em, stealing 7 points away so far at 2-3-1. Along with a pretty great 3-1-0 record at home, we're in 4th somehow, 5th by PPG. How are we feeling lads?
You cannot help but feel good based on where we’ve been these last few seasons. They are clearly over performing at the moment but the team fights hard and that makes them worth watching.
My worries about ongoing improvement are really down to Manning’s continued presence and Hernandez’s lack of experience.
Yep, as someone lukewarm on the announcement of Herdman, I'd support putting his statue outside BMO field at this point. Given what he inherited, and the injuries we've had, I'm over the moon with where we're at. And I still maintain a first round exit in the playoffs is a great season given that mess. We'll lose games throughout this season, but that doesn't change the job Herdman has done and is doing.
But, still continue to see evidence that Manning is an albatross on this team, and that continued into our major winter business this year which has yet again held the team back. We have a firm ceiling while he's still here. The jury is out on Hernandez, there's not much there to tell me he'll turn into a star, but it's early.
Whitecaps2 lost 1-0 in MLSNP yesterday.
This was the goal

Bernadeschi is seventh in the league in key passes, one behind Paintsil and two out of third place:

He is quietly having a very good season. Hasn't missed a single minute of play too.

After Philly’s loss at home to Seattle yesterday, we’re alone in 4th place in points and in winning percentage. Before the season began this was not what I expected 1/3 of the way into the season (not to mention injury riddled again)! I was one of the most optimistic posters at that time, and even still that meant the playoffs were unlikely.
I believe this next little stretch will define our season. We have 4/5 of the next games at home.
Next 2 we are at home to Dallas and NYCFC. NYCFC just had a 4 match run at home on the baseball field and did extremely well, they are on the way up.
I also hope we can do the 2nd half of the season with Richie, Insigne and 1 or 2 summer reinforcements all available.
Miami is.... Good
They are. They seemed to be toying with their RBNY prey last night. That in itself should be a concern for all the other clubs in the league. The goal against Dallas by Federico was something timeless to behold. However, the quick strike by newbie Matias Rojas IMO was certainly a 1A match day highlight.

Some interesting rotation with the TFCII squad.
Ythallo & Staniland on the bench I wonder if one or both are earmarked for a short term call up for the Can Champ match this week.
The league is better when Canada's got strong teams. Bless up.
A story I tripped over, in a corner of the internet far from traditional sports media.
This seems like it's worth keeping an eye on
https://www.propublica.org/article/s...-tax-avoidance
"There are some people who might have better technique than me, and some may be fitter than me, but the main thing is tactics. With most players, tactics are missing. You can divide tactics into insight, trust, and daring." - Johan Cruyff
Astonishing. They're using physical asset depreciation to claim losses of value, even in cases (players getting better, facilities gaining value) where they gain.
Must've been known for decades if it was reported on during the Bill Veek era, so this is probably a crackdown based purely on it getting reporting traction. ProPublic stories get repackaged and covered by big outlets, so they're likely trying to get ahead of it.
Quite possibly doesn't apply to us, assuming our asset depreciation rules aren't as absurdly forgiving.
^ US and Canadian accounting would be very similar on this.
This is a subset of a bigger problem. All kinds of valuable intangible assets (including virtually everything in tech and media companies) can be depreciated, even when it makes no sense. The accounting rules were made when manufacturing businesses ruled.

Less generous in Canada (you don't use accounting treatment in Canada like you can in the US, how you "depreciate" (amortize) items is prescribed in our tax code and is more restricted). Ensco is right, however, a lot of intangible assets can be depreciated over time, even though (unlike machinery) they can increase in value over time.

MLS is a tough, physical league, that emphasizes speed, and features plastic fields, grueling travel, extreme weather, and incompetent refs. - NK Toronto
So Raps no playoffs, Leafs are out, Jays are starting to suck ...
If TFC can keep this up they'll own the city this year.
Not sure if this has been mentioned already; in case anyone is or all are yet unaware…

We’re up to 9th in the MLS power rankings.
“Even if you, like me, are skeptical of Toronto’s ability to keep earning results, some of their underlying numbers suggest their early-season success isn’t a fluke. Per American Soccer Analysis, Toronto are seventh in MLS in expected points. They’re creating better chances than their opponents more often than not.”
"Must not acknowledge that coaching was a major flaw"
"Must not....."
(Kaylin Kyle is coming the closest to admitting that so far of any MLS commentator by talking so much about how Herdman has changed the atmosphere)
