That math would only work if only those 13 teams could win. You have to average the number of teams over the 11 seasons to get real odds. So it's better than "slightly" beating the odds. More like 1 in 18, give or take (I'm not doing a detailed calculation).

It's actually pretty close to "slightly". Given the number of teams each year (13,14,15,16,18,19,19,19,20,20,22), and a equal change to win each year by each team, the chance that we would have won a supporter's shield by now (including this season) is at 48%. So we're almost at the balancing point of equal changes to win and not.

If it was a 13 team league then "beating the odds" would mean winning it in year 6 or sooner. 7 would be average. 8 or greater would be below average.

We only have this talk because of the relative parity in this league.

If this was the Premier League, nobody would be calling Stoke a failure for having failed to win the league since the Premier League's inception in 1992.

We suffered a lot over the past 11 years supporting this team - today culminated our best season and the Supporters Shield is a great achievement in itself. We should take the time to enjoy the moment. The team deserved this & the support deserved it. We've improved the standard in MLS & we can continue to improve. Long may it run.

I wonder if any thought was given to him taking the penalty, and not just for the hat trick...it might have exorcised a demon or two.

In my opinion he would probably want to be as far away as possible from that penalty spot. Exercise demons on a day where we are up by 2 and the shield is not on the line. ;-)

If it was a different scoreline, maybe. Tie/Close Game, it's Giovinco-Vasquez-Altidore in that pecking order, probably

so lets talk about this, after the first round bye, we will play the lowest seeded team that wins the knockouts.

This means that on Oct 30/31 we will have our first away game in either Chicago, Columbus or at NYRB. Chance to play in Atlanta is small, they will need to be over taken by Chicago or Columbus, which given current form will be difficult.

Oct 30/31 is a monday tuesday combo, which is shitty but should be a fun away trip regardless.

Exactly what im looking at right now. If Atlanta doesnt choke in playoffs first round, then lookings like the two Cs are what we looking to go to. Chicago or Columbus, shall be interesting!! gotta start booking those days off haha :P

Is it possible that in a league with 86% Amercian franchises, that 2 Canadian teams will win the respective conferences? All Canadian Final?

It's possible, but Sports Club Stats gives KC as a stronger team, as does fivethirtyeight.com.

Might want to play Vancouver - at least we have a 2-0 decision over them, vs a 0-0 with KC.

Only thing left of importance this regular season is the Galaxy record. They need 4 points to pass them.

Looking forward to the massive celebration of emotion when the Supporter Shield is finally presented on Oct. 15 at BMO Field. After the celebration on Saturday it is bound to only get bigger in two weeks.

If I understand correctly, the presentation will be done on Oct 15th at our next home game.

So, what are the logistics? Is there anything happening between now and then with a handover from the RB Supporters (Viking Army or Empire Supporters) beforehand? Does it happen on the pitch?

    I wanna know!! :-)

The handover won't be from either of those, Dallas won the Shield last year so it would be figuring out the exact logistics with them and the club.

I hope it won't be a 'meh' before the game thing! It would be a distraction to the team before the game, get lost in the lead up to the game and detract from what should be a barn burner, with Montreal's faint last hope of making the playoffs hinging on this result. Imagine the celebration at the end if we win AND get the shield!

from what ive seen on youtube, the presentation and celebrations are done AFTER the game. if its up to the clubs individually than who knows, but lets all hope its an after game celebration

The club have chosen a before the match celebration - its hard to have that joy if lets say - they don't get the result.

Anyhow it will be a simple presentation focused on the team, I am sure after the game there will be some moments too!
